Details

An ancient dighi called Adhardighi is located at Barakot village, 5 km northwest of Baliadangi upazila. No one can tell the exact history of how long ago this tank was dug. It is estimated that this tank was dug 500-600 years ago. It is said that the banks of this lake used to be quite high and surrounded by banyan trees. Birds of various species, especially herds, used to live here. There was a town called Barakot, 2 km south-east of Aadhar Dighi. This town was inhabited by the sunny Bibi. During the Nawabi period Nawabzada Gafar Khan, Nawabzada Zainuddin and Mehedi Beg used to come to this region to collect rent. It is said that the tehsildars of Raja Preeti Chand, the zamindar of Khagra State in Bihar, used to collect rent on elephants. The zamindars used to cultivate fish in Aadhar Dighi and fish weighing one to one and a half manas could be found.

There are various folk tales about this dighi. It is said that if the locals swore an oath on the occasion of a wedding or any other occasion, utensils with money could be obtained from Edighi. People in Hindu society still vow to fulfill their desires and bathe in the tank.

Fairs have been held on the banks of Edighi since the distant past. On the occasion of Chaitrasankranti Puja, a fair of Aadhar Dighi is held on New Year's Day. The fair was attended by people from all walks of life, including Hindus and Muslims.
